Abstract: The goal of this project is to determine the feasibility of calculating atravel route for an electric vehicle (EV) that will require the least amount ofenergy for the trip, and thus extending the range of the EV. To achieve thisgoal, the research team set up several objectives, including 1) to demonstratethe accuracy of measurements from the data acquisition system; 2) todemonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm in estimating energyconsumption of the test EV (2013 NISSAN LEAF) in real-time; and 3) todemonstrate the benefit from the prototype system in terms energy savings forthe test EV. The results from the project show that the proposed system canfulfill the aforementioned objectives and provide up to 51 of energyreduction, compared with the conventional navigation strategies (i.e., shortesttravel distance and least travel duration).
