Abstract: In this work, we study the statistically robust beamforming design for anintelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS) assisted multiple-input single-output(MISO) wireless system under imperfect channel state information (CSI), wherethe channel estimation errors are assumed to be additive Gaussian. We aim atjointly optimizing the transmit receive beamformers and IRS phase shifts tominimize the average mean squared error (MSE) at the user. In particular, totackle the non-convex optimization problem, an efficient algorithm is developedby capitalizing on alternating optimization and majorization-minimizationtechniques. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves robustMSE performance in the presence of CSI error, and substantially outperformsconventional non-robust methods.
