Integer Wavelet-Based Image Interpolation in Lifting Structure for Image Resolution Enhancement

Abstract: A floating-point wavelet-based and an integer wavelet-based image interpolationsin lifting structures and polynomial curve fitting for image resolutionenhancement are proposed in this paper. The proposed prediction methodsestimate high-frequency wavelet coefficients of the original image based onthe available low-frequency wavelet coefficients, so that the original imagecan be reconstructed by using the proposed prediction method. To furtherimprove the reconstruction performance, we use polynomial curve fitting tobuild relationships between actual high-frequency wavelet coefficients and estimatedhigh-frequency wavelet coefficients. Results of the proposed predictionalgorithm for different wavelet transforms are compared to show theproposed prediction algorithm outperforms other methods.
