Abstract: Setting common consumption standards is one of the objectives of sustained economic coordination among EU Member States. Therefore, the impact of family poverty on people s economic pressure should converge. According to comparative theory, this convergence may be an indicator of common European growth ( "Europeanization "). Using EU-SILC data, the relationship between poverty and economic stress was tested in 28 EU countries. In addition, this paper also examines whether this correlation has changed between 2007 and 2015, because the impact of the great recession that began in 2008 on European countries is different. The results show that under a certain degree of family poverty, people all over Europe have different judgments about their situation. And the level of economic pressure is very high in relatively poor countries, the deprivation-stress link is stronger in rich countries. Across-time comparisons suggest no decline in the extent to which a country’s deprivation level moderated the effect of household deprivation on economic stress. The findings support the persistence of national reference groups against which individuals judge their own economic situation.
