Abstract: Most studies focusing on the financial predictors of success in higher education are concentrated in liberal arts schools, and a limited number of conditional variables have been investigated in the analysis. This study complements the literature by exploring the financial predictors of student success through a unique sample of art and design students and by considering some variable interactions. Among all the models explored, institutional scholarship has become the strongest predictor of students persistence, progress and timely graduation. Standardized test scores interact with scholarships in a unique way. The results show that in art and design institutions, high score students may face risks, and scholarships may reduce this risk.
