Abstract: This descriptive article explores the possibility of better integration of student led international health activities with the formal medical education system. Students have accepted the challenges and opportunities brought by globalization and played a leading role in international issues. Medical students have participated in a variety of international activities, including internationalization of medical courses, establishment of "practical " development projects, promotion of student exchanges and participation in high-level international policy forums. These experiences not only contribute to students personal and professional development, but also may contribute to the academic environment of their institutions, or even morebroadly influencing the determinants of international health outcomes. There are challenges and risks associated with independent student initiatives, however these risks can be mitigated if institutions work in partnership with their students and peers internationally.
