Abstract: Over the past few decades, the number of international students enrolled in American higher education has increased significantly. In this study, the experience of international students was investigated in an academic and socio-cultural environment. Through qualitative interviews, the results show that international students respond to academic challenges, social isolation and cultural adaptation. Specifically, academic challenges include communication with professors, classmates and employees. Therefore, when they engage in different group activities, they must deal with the problem of social isolation. Culturally, they need to face different ways of thinking and behavior in the United States. In order to overcome these challenges, students use resources mainly from universities to overcome these challenges.hus, as demonstrated in this study, having a better understanding of these students’ academic challenges, university faculty and staff can recognize students’ needs and effectively offer supportive campus resources and services. The university needs to be prepared to meet students not only academically but also socially and culturally. This study also suggests that some preparations need to be made by the university that will embrace international students upon their arrival.
