Study on the correlation between physical interest, basic mathematical concept knowledge and physical problem solving ability of junior middle school students in Maluku Province, Anbang, Indonesia

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between interest in physics, knowledge of basic mathematical concepts and the ability to solve physical problems. These people are all grade 7 students of Maluku AnBen junior middle school in Indonesia. The sample schools used are the 8th, 9th and 10th junior middle schools in the 2013 2014 academic year, with 44 students in each school. Two independent variables and one dependent variable are studied. The independent variable is physical interest (x1) and basic mathematical concept knowledge (x2), and the dependent variable is the ability to solve physical problems (y). X1 s data collection technology uses questionnaire tools for interviews, while x2 and Y s data collection technology uses test itemsrument. The obtained data from the measurements were analyzed with descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The results show that there is a positive relation between interest at Physics and knowledge of Mathematics basic concepts with students’ ability to solve Physics problems.
