Abstract: The international reading literacy research progress Family Questionnaire (pirls-hq 2011) aims to collect information about the development of reading literacy from the parents or main caregivers of fourth graders, which involves all aspects of students family life in various countries regions. For international comparison and research, the questionnaire was translated into different languages. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Chinese version of pirls 2011 Family Questionnaire (pipls-hqcv 2011), and to identify the potential factor structure by using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the fourth primary school student in Hong Kong. EFA has identified a 7-factor structural model and confirmed that the model is consistent withoriginal PIRLS structure by CFA. Additional conceptually important domains have been identified which add further insights into the inconclusive results in the literature regarding the relationship between home factors and reading achievement. Implications for further studies are discussed.
