The influence of personalized teaching on students' academic achievement

Abstract: Using the artificial intelligence technology of rule-based knowledge representation and expert system, a web-based personalized learning portal is developed to minimize the uncertainty of learning and build an intelligent teaching system. The portal provides personalized learning content based on personal cognitive knowledge level. In order to determine the impact of the developed system on students performance, students in the Department of software engineering of the Institute of technology were tested for 8 weeks. This study adopts the experimental design of pre-test and post-test control group. The experimental group received personalized teaching portal education, and the control group received personalized teaching portal educationion in traditional learning environment. Academic achievement test was used as the data collection tool. In order to test the research hypotheses, data obtained from the data collection tools were analysed in terms of frequency, percentages, and dependent-independent -test with statistical software program. Based on the results, no significant differences were found between the groups in terms of the pretest. On the other hand, significant differences were found between experimental and control group in terms of the posttest. It was concluded that individualized learning portal had positive effect on the students’ learning when used in combination with traditional learning environment.
