Patients' cognition of medical students' participation in surgical nursing: a single center study

Abstract: Goals. To investigate the cognition of patients on the role of medical students in the operating room. method. A cross-sectional study of randomly selected samples was conducted at King Abdulaziz University Hospital. Results 131 people participated in this study. 77 participants were women and 50 participants were men. 46.4 thought that it was important for future doctors to be in the operating room during operation. 60.2 thought that medical students only observed surgeons in the operating room, and 39 thought that medical students performed minor operations in the operating room. Conclusion compared with bedside teaching and outpatient service, patients underestimated the importance of medical students attendance and participation in drama. Patients think that medical students should get their helponsent prior to observing them in the theatre.
