Abstract: More and more postdoctoral scholars are seeking diversified career paths, which requires a wide range of skills to ensure success. However, most post doctoral professional learning and development programs are designed for academic careers and rarely include the professional skills required to thrive in a non academic environment. The purpose of this systematic review is to comprehensively examine and synthesize the evidence of professional learning and development of postdoctoral scholars. 7571 citations were obtained by systematic search, of which 162 full-text papers were reviewed, and 28 studies met our inclusion criteria and were included in this review. This paper synthesizes and classifies the research on exploring the professional learning and development of postdoctoral scholars. The findings maye used to inform the objectives of professional learning and development initiatives for postdoctoral scholars and contribute to a more rigorous approach to studying professional learning and development.
