A study on the relationship between causal attribution and middle school students' academic achievement

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to establish the relationship between causal attribution and academic achievement. Weiner s achievement attribution model guided this study. 585 students (315 males and 270 females) participated in the study. Participants completed the multidimensional multiple attribution causality scale (MMCs), and their academic performance was obtained from the participants academic records. Most students attribute success and failure to internal, uncontrollable and unstable attribution. The results show that causal attribution is significantly correlated with academic achievement. Considering that students may form causal attribution of maladjustment, the study puts forward intervention suggestions to stakeholdersmeasures.
