Innovative cheating methods: an exploration of College Students' cheating skills in exams

Abstract: The prevalence and proliferation of academic cheating shows that students are looking for innovative test cheating skills. This question makes invigilators and academic stakeholders wonder how students cheat in exams. This study uses qualitative methods to explore the skills used by students in exams. The data are from students at kwamenkruma University of technology. The survey results show that the innovative technologies used by students include sitting arrangement, the use of body parts, the entry of foreign bodies and the use of technology. Students design these skills because of their perception of cheating and poor institutional mechanisms, which provides a favorable basis for cheating. Therefore, we believe that to curtail academic cheating, not only should educational authorities and academic stakeholders improve institutional mechanism to prevent cheating, as it is the case, but also, a conscious effort should be made to alter student’s perception of cheating.
