The influence of wechat online teaching on English learners' vocabulary knowledge

Abstract: During the epidemic of coronavirus disease in 2019, online teaching through different mobile applications has become more and more common in education all over the world. Therefore, this study investigates the potential impact of wechat online teaching on Iranian English learners vocabulary knowledge. In order to achieve this goal, 44 Iranian intermediate subjects were selected from 67 students according to the results of the Oxford rapid admission test (oqpt). Then the subjects were randomly divided into two groups: experimental group and control group. The subjects were divided into two groups for vocabulary test. Then, the experimental group received wechat application vocabulary teaching, while the control group received conventional vocabulary teaching. afterthe instruction, a vocabulary posttest was given to both groups to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. The gathered data were analyzed through independent samples t-test, one-way ANCOVA, and paired samples t-test. The outcomes attained in this research demonstrated that there was a significant difference between the posttests of both groups in favor of the experimental group. Eventually, the conclusions and the pedagogical implications of this study were explicated.
