Aceh cultural leaders' views on maternal anemia: a qualitative study

Abstract: Anemia during pregnancy is one of the most common problems during pregnancy. Cultural belief is one of the factors causing this problem. The purpose of this study was to explore the cultural leaders cognition of Aceh culture on pregnancy anemia. method. The qualitative research was conducted through three in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with Aceh cultural leaders. Inductive content analysis was used for data analysis. There are four themes in the interview and discussion: (1) cultural belief of anemia; (2) Food from local resources; (3) Husband s participation in the prevention of anemia during pregnancy; (4) Do and don t. Conclusion. Our findings provide insight into the views of cultural leaders on anemia during pregnancy and how they view anemiae integrated strongly into Acehnese people’s lives. These findings would assist in developing culturally adapted strategic policy to prevent anemia during pregnancy.
