Adsorption of mercury (II) in aqueous solution by fungal organisms

Abstract: In this study, the biosorption of mercury (II) by 14 fungal biomass was studied, including Aspergillus flavus I-V, Aspergillus fumigatus I-II, helminthia, Cladosporium, Mucor ruthenii mutant, Mucor ruthenii im-80, Mucor ruthenii 1 and 2 and Candida albicans. It was found that the biomass of fungi M. rouxii im-80, M. rouxii mutant, Mucor Sp1 and Mucor SP2 effectively removed metals from the solution. Using dithizone, the removal rates were 95.3 , 88.7 , 80.4 and 78.3 respectively.
