Spectral characterization and biological activity of Mixed Complexes of Ni (II) with 1,10-Phenanthroline Heterocyclic Schiff Base

Abstract: Mixed ligand complexes of Ni (II) with 1,10-Phenanthroline (1,10-phen) and Schiff base L1 (miimp); L2(CMIIMP); L3(emimp); L4(MIIMNP); L5(MEMIIMP); L6(bmimp); L7(mmimp); L8 (miibd) was synthesized. These metal chelates were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, mass, UV Vis, magnetic moment and thermogravimetric analysis (TG & DTA). The spectral data show that 1,10-phenanthroline as a neutral bidentate ligand coordinates with metal ions through two nitrogen donor atoms, and Schiff base as a single base bidentate ligand coordinates with no donor atoms. All nickel (II) complexes appear to have octahedral geometry. Through the screening of a variety of microorganisms, the antibacterial activity of mixed ligand complexes was studied, and it was found that their antibacterial activity was significantly improvedenhances upon coordination. The DNA binding studies have been investigated by UV-Vis spectroscopy, and the experimental results indicate that these complexes bind to CT DNA with the intrinsic binding constant  M−1. MTT is used to test the anticancer effect of the complexes with HL60 tumor cell. The inhibition ratio was accelerated by increasing the dosage, and it had significant positive correlation with the medication dosage.
