Abstract: A new metal (II) complex derived from 2-hydroxy-n ′ - ((z) - 3 - (hydroxyimino) - 4-oxopentane-2-subunit) benzoyl hydrazide ligand (h2l) was synthesized and characterized by elemental and thermal analysis (DTA and TGA), IR, UV-Vis, 1H-NMR, ESR, mass spectrometry, magnetic susceptibility and electrical conductivity measurements. The complex adopts distorted octahedral geometry. The ESR spectra of solid copper (II) complexes have configuration characteristics and have the axisymmetric type of ground state. These values confirm the tetrahedral geometry with equivalent ionic or covalent environment. Compared with sorafe, the cytotoxic activity of ligand and its metal complexes showed a strong cytotoxic effect on the growth of human hepatoma HepG2 cell lineib (Nexavar).
