Abstract: Goals. To establish a new method for measuring the antioxidant capacity of human urine based on redox couple I2 Ki, and to evaluate the redox status of healthy and diseased individuals. method. The method is based on the linear relationship between redox potential (ORP) and the logarithm of I2 ki concentration ratio. The ORP of solutions with known concentration ratio of I2 ki will change when reacting with urine. In order to determine the accuracy of the method, vitamin C and urine reacted with I2 ki solution respectively. The method was compared with the traditional iodin titration method, and the antioxidant capacity of 30 diabetic patients and 30 healthy people was measured by this method. There is a linear relationship between consequence and logaithm of concentration ratio of I2 KI and ORP (). Both vitamin C and urine concentration showed a linear relationship with ORP ( and 0.986, resp.). The precision of the method was in the acceptable range and results of two methods had a linear correlation (). Differences in ORP values between diabetic group and control group were statistically significant (). Conclusions. A new method for measuring the antioxidant capacity of clinical urine has been established.
