Adsorption and removal of hexavalent chromium from macadamia nut shell powder grafted with Diphenylcarbohydrazide

Abstract: 1,5 - diphenylcarbazide (DPC) was immobilized on the surface of macadamia nut shell powder and functionalized by hydrogen peroxide oxidation (MHP). Due to the existence of NH and C = C stretching at 3361, 1591 and 1486, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the effectiveness of grafting   cm − 1, respectively on the grafted materials missing in the non grafted materials. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that due to the volatility of DPC, the presence of DPC on the surface of Australian nut shell reduced the thermal stability from 300 ° C to about 180 ° C. Surface roughness as a result of grafting is appreciated by scanning electron microscope images. The parameters affecting the adsorption removal of Cr (VI) were investigated. It was found that the adsorption removal effect of Cr (VI) was the best at ph2120,50 mg L, and 2.5 g L. Grafting MHP with DPC leads to an increase in the Langmuir monolayer capacity from 37.74 to 72.12 mg g. Grafting MHP with DPC produced adsorbent with improved removal efficiency for Cr(VI).
