Research progress of porphyrin embedded gold nanorods in the treatment of cancer and bacterial diseases

Abstract: Cancer and bacterial diseases are by far the most prone diseases. According to the 2018 World Health report, at least every family in the world is affected by cancer. In 2012, 14.1 million people were affected by cancer, and this number will certainly increase to 21.6 million by 2030. Therefore, medicine uses traditional methods to classify treatment methods, which have been proved to have many side effects. Researchers have developed photothermal and photodynamic methods to treat cancer and bacterial diseases. These methods have little impact on biological systems, but no perfect methods have been synthesized. This review aims to explore the use of porphyrins and gold nanorods in the treatment of cancer and bacterial diseases: porphyrins as photosensitizers and gold nanorodsods as delivery agents. In addition, the review delves into ways of incorporating photothermal and photodynamic therapy aimed at producing a less toxic, more efficacious, and specific compound for the treatment.
