Adsorption capacity of modified oyster shell for toxic chromium (VI) ions in water

Abstract: In this paper, the chromium, hexavalent chromium and ion adsorption capacity of oyster shell samples collected from Fuyuan province and Guangning province of Vietnam were studied and compared. Oyster shell samples were calcined at different temperatures and denatured with ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA). The adsorption capacity of oyster prismatic shell (PP) and Nacre (NP) for Cr (VI) ions was evaluated. The oyster shell samples before and after treatment were characterized by XRD, IR, bet, UV Vis and FESEM. Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin radushkevich models and fitted statistical equations were used to study the adsorption isotherms of Cr (VI) ions on oyster shells. Cr(VI)ios adsorption kinetic has been set up using four reaction models consisting of first-order, pseudo-first-order, second-order, and pseudo-second-order reaction models. Effects of experimental factors on the Cr (VI) ion adsorption process using oyster shells were also investigated and discussed in this work.
