Nanoparticles for diagnosis and treatment of oral cancer

Abstract: Oral cancer is the sixth most common malignant tumor, which affects people s health with an unacceptably high mortality. Although there are many clinical methods in the diagnosis and treatment of oral cancer (such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy), these methods are still far from ideal. Therefore, there is an urgent need for effective and practical early diagnosis and effective treatment of oral cancer. At present, various types of nanoparticles have attracted extensive public attention and represent a promising tool for diagnostic probes and therapeutic devices. Its inherent physicochemical properties, including ultra-small size, high reactivity and adjustable surface modification, enable it to overcome some limitations and achieveted diagnostic and therapeutic effect. In this review, we introduce different types of nanoparticles that emerged for the diagnosis and therapy of oral cancers. Then, the challenges and future perspectives for nanoparticles applied in oral cancer diagnosis and therapy are presented. The objective of this review is to help researchers better understand the effect of nanoparticles on oral cancer diagnosis and therapy and may accelerate breakthroughs in this field.
