Abstract: Many factors will affect the overall performance and life of highway bridges, including the integrity of deck joints. The focus of this study is to evaluate the subsurface damage of degraded concrete bridge deck joints, including delamination and corrosion of reinforcement. Impact echo and surface wave techniques (mainly portable seismic characteristic analyzer (PspA)) are used to evaluate the structural defects of concrete joints. Laboratory tests of core samples were carried out to verify the NDT results. The main advantage of PspA as a bridge evaluation tool is that it can evaluate the modulus of concrete and detect underground defects at specific points at the same time.
