Fracture study on bending / torsion fatigue failure of metal materials with protective surface layer

Abstract: The fracture research results of biaxial in-phase bending torsion fatigue fracture in nitrided steel and nickel base superalloy (including protective coating (diffusion coating and plasma sprayed thermal barrier coating)) are given. The fracture surface was examined by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope, and the three-dimensional surface data of the selected fracture surface area were obtained by stereo photogrammetry and optical profilometry. According to the microstructure and applied mechanical load, the studied materials show a wide range of fracture mechanisms.
