Double band magnetic crystals: model system and basic spin wave dynamics

Abstract: We study a specially designed two-dimensional magnon crystal, which is composed of two superimposed lattices with different lattice constants. Therefore, spin waves (SWS) can propagate in one or another sublattice, depending on which of the two frequency bands they belong to. The SW band is separated by a very large band gap (in our model system, 6   (GHz) , it can be easily tuned by changing the direction of the applied magnetic field, and the overlap of its spatial distribution can always be ignored for any frequency of its frequency band. These characteristics make the designed system an ideal test system for magnon dual frequency waveguide, in which two independent SW signals are allowed to be excited and then propagated simultaneously without interference with each other.
