Transformation mechanism of fluoromica to fluoroamphibole in fluoroamphibole glass ceramics

Abstract: During isothermal sintering at 820 ℃, the transformation mechanism of fluoromica to fluoroamphibole in fluoromica and soda lime glass powder compacts was studied by means of differential thermal analysis, infrared reflection spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. The results show that fluoromica interacts with glass during isothermal heating; Oxygen −, sodium ions and calcium ions diffuse from glass to fluoromica. This diffusion helps to transform the flake structure of fluoromica crystal into double chain structure through the fracture of bridging oxygen bond in flake. Subsequently, the two broken parallel double chains were rearranged by relative displacement along the axial direction of fluoromica crystal and connected by Na+nd Ca2+ ions to form fluoramphibole. A crystallography model of fluormica-fluoramphibole transformation was established in this study.
