Properties of laminated wood composites prepared from thermomechanically treated veneers

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the properties of plywood made of thermomechanically treated wood veneer. Amescla (traittinickia burseraefolia) wood veneer was treated by resistance heating hydraulic press. Two temperature levels of 140 ° C and 180 ° C were used for 1 minute and 2 minutes, and the temperature was 2.7 ℃   n mm2. A total of 30 pieces of plywood were produced, including 6 untreated veneers. The results show that thermomechanical treatment has no adverse effect on the strength of bonding line, and most of the mechanical properties of plywood made of treated veneer have been improved. On the other hand, plywood made of untreated veneer has better dimensional stability. Temperature has the greatest influence on dimensional stabilityf the treatment, while mechanical stability, represented by the glue line shear strength, was positively affected by temperature and duration of the treatment.
