Abstract: The thermomechanical behavior and crack propagation of functionally graded metal ceramic plates under thermal shock are analyzed by finite element method. Therefore, a two-dimensional plane strain functional gradient finite element is developed in ABAQUS software environment. By programming appropriate user-defined subroutines, the material quantity is directly sampled at the Gaussian point of the element, so as to realize the actual material grading. Virtual crack closure technique is used to simulate crack propagation under thermal load. In the thermal simulation, the possible contact between crack edges during crack propagation is also considered. This paper shows that the proposed finite element model can be used to provide an in-depth analysiso the thermomechanical respond and failure of the metal ceramic plate.
