Effect of rubber asphalt mixing mode on permanent deformation of SMA rubber asphalt mixture

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to compare the permanent deformation of wet produced asphalt mastic macadam (SMA) rubber asphalt mixture. In this study, two different blending methods were used to prepare rubber adhesives, namely continuous blending and terminal blending. In order to study and control the creep behavior of asphalt and rubber asphalt mixture, dynamic creep tests were carried out at different temperatures and stress levels using universal material test device (umatta). Zhou s three-stage creep model is used to evaluate the deformation characteristics of the mixture. Under all test conditions, rubber mixtures produced with continuously mixed adhesives showed the highest permanent deformation resistance. This study also reveals the permanent deformation of rubber coating mixtures cannot be predicted based on the characteristics of the rubberized binders.
