Abstract: Aiming at the main defects in the numerical analysis method of rock slope stability, such as the selection of convergence conditions of strength reduction method, a strength reduction method based on minimum energy dissipation rate is proposed. This method considers the basic principle of failure of fractured rock slope, that is, the expansion and consolidation process of fractures in rock slope. The effectiveness of this method is verified by analyzing the rock slope of a mine in the west, and compared with the commonly used strength reduction method. The results show that the new method based on the minimum energy dissipation rate can be used for the stability analysis of fractured rock slope, and the results are good. In addition, the new method can obtain a smaller safety factor Fr the rock slope than those by other methods. Therefore, the new method based on the minimum energy dissipation rate is a good method to analyze the stability of the fractured rock slope and should be superior to other generally used methods.
