Feasibility test and analysis of shaving process of high strength steel plate

Abstract: In recent years, engineering materials have been developed to improve their mechanical properties. High strength steel plate is one of them. It is developed to meet the requirements of reducing vehicle weight. Therefore, as a new material, many studies have been carried out to test the application of sheet metal forming process in high strength steel plate. However, the feasibility of applying shaving technology has not been studied. In this study, two types of high strength steel plates: Saph 440 and spfh 590y (JIS) were tested to reveal this feasibility. The relationship between the planed surface characteristics of high strength steel plate and the shear gap is in good agreement with that of traditional metal plate. However, due to high ultimat strength of these materials, it was revealed in this present study that there were not any suitable conditions of shaving process that could be applied to achieve the requirements of smooth cut surface overall material thickness.
