Study on acoustic emission characteristics of dense skeleton semi-rigid base under uniaxial compression test

Abstract: The mechanical testing machine and acoustic emission system are used to test the acoustic emission of semi-rigid base specimens subjected to uniaxial compression, so as to determine the acoustic emission criterion of uniaxial compression failure process of dense skeleton semi-rigid base. Acoustic emission counting, cumulative acoustic emission energy and - value are discussed. The results show that the AE parameters can reflect the failure process of dense skeleton semi-rigid base. The failure process mainly goes through three stages. According to the acoustic emission parameters, it is divided into initial development stage, stable growth stage and unstable stage. The knee of AE parameter curve is 25 and 85 of the ultimate load respectively- The change of value can indicate stress and is a precursor of specimen failure. commonlyral terms, a -value greater than 3.5 indicates that specimens are at the initial stage of development. A -value between 1 and 2 indicates that the specimens are at the stable growth stage. If the -value seems to fluctuate and increase, the specimens are at the unstable stage. Moreover, the AE parameters indicated that attaching sensors to the waist of specimens was superior to that at other locations of a specimen.
