Simulation of self compacting concrete by enhanced Lagrangian particle method

Abstract: The industry uses self compacting concrete (SCC) to overcome the defects related to consolidation, improve productivity, safety and quality. Due to the large deformation in SCC flow process, an improved Lagrangian particle based method, smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method, although originally developed to study astrophysical problems, has special advantages in solving problems such as debris, coalescence and severe free surface deformation. In this study, We developed a method to simulate SCC as a non-Newtonian fluid flow to obtain stable results and satisfactory convergence. The solution is based on Navier Stokes equation and incompressible mass conservation equation. The shear stress is simulated by cross rheological modelnd strain relationship of SCC. Mirror particle method is used for wall boundaries. The improved SPH method is tested by a typical 2D slump flow problem and also applied to L-box test. The capability and results obtained from this method are discussed.
