Long bubble penetration of viscoelastic fluid in sudden contraction and expansion tubes

Abstract: The characteristics of long bubbles penetrating viscoelastic fluid in sudden expansion tube are studied. The injected gas flow is controlled by the mass flow controller (MFC). This paper discusses some dimensionless parameters, such as capillary number (CA), Reynolds number (RE), fractional ratio () and wiesenberg number (WI). The experimental results show that the bubble velocity, Ca and wi increase with the increase of shear viscosity at constant gas flow rate. However, with the increase of shear viscosity, the bubble diameter decreases and increases. When the gas flow rate is 200   ml min, the shear viscosity increases, the bubble front in the contraction tube is sharp, and the bubble front in the sudden expansion tube is blunt. When the gas flow is 600   ml minand shear viscosity increases, the bubble front is blunter in the contraction tube and exhibits a torch shape in the sudden expansion tube.
