Abstract: In rock engineering projects, the static parameters can better reflect the actual load conditions than the dynamic parameters. This study reports a new and effective method to calculate the static elastic modulus by using gene expression programming (GEP) and nondestructive testing (NDT). The results obtained by GEP were compared with those of multivariable linear regression analysis (MRA), univariate nonlinear regression analysis (URA) and dynamic elastic modulus (). The GEP model was found to produce the most accurate results. The proposed method is a simple, nondestructive and practical method for determining anisotropic and heterogeneous rocks.
