Abstract: SiC composites toughened by carbon whiskers and in-situ 3C SiC nanowires were prepared by hot pressing sintering and annealing. The effects of annealing time on the morphology of SiC nanowires and the mechanical properties of SiC composites were investigated in detail. Appropriate annealing time improves the mechanical properties of SiC composites. The synergistic effect of carbon whiskers and SiC nanowires can improve the fracture toughness of SiC composites. The vapor liquid solid growth mechanism was proposed. TEM photos show that 3C SiC nanowires have a selective growth surface (), corresponding to a crystal plane spacing of about 0.25   nm.
