Abstract: Using various agricultural waste ash as pozzolanic materials may reduce the environmental impact and cost related to building materials. In this paper, the author studied the strength and permeability of mortar with different proportion of rice straw ash (RSA) as cement substitute, and the possibility of using RSA as pozzolanic material. Locally available straw is burned and ground at a temperature of 600 ° C to make RSA. The chemical and physical properties of RSA were studied. The results showed that the coal ash contained about 76 silica. This study further focuses on the strength and water permeability of mortar using RSA, which shows that the strength and water permeability with a replacement rate of up to 10 have better resultst than that of control specimen.
