Finite element analysis of synergistic effect of coated reinforcement and alternative aggregate on concrete beams

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to compare the ultimate bearing capacity of traditional reinforced concrete beams with that of investigation samples mixed with coated reinforcement and partially mixed with recycled aggregate and quarry dust. A new coating reinforcement technology delays the occurrence of corrosion and improves the durability of the structure. The results show that there is not even a layer of corrosion (white rust) in the investigated samples. Compared with the control specimen, the stiffness increases gradually from the first crack state to the limit stage, and the difference of ultimate bearing capacity of the study specimen can be ignored. The addition of zinc plating, recycled aggregate and quarry dust seems to be related to Eisting conservative concreting procedures. Experimental results are compared with the numerical solutions aided by finite element analysis (FEA by using ABAQUS).
