Abstract: In a serious nuclear power plant accident, the molten core will be released into the reactor pit and interact with sacrificial concrete. In this paper, a simulation study is proposed to solve the influence of sacrificial concrete properties on melt core concrete interaction (MCCI). In particular, according to MELCOR specification, different ablation enthalpies and Fe2O3 and H2O contents of ferrosilicon concrete used in European pressurized water reactor (EPR) are considered. The results show that the ablation rate and hydrogen production rate of concrete largely depend on the ablation enthalpy, Fe2O3 and H2O content of concrete. In practice, the higher the ablation enthalpy of sacrificial concrete, the better, while the higher the Fe2O3 and H2O content in sacrificial concrete, the betterficial concrete is the lower the better.
