Abstract: Nanocrystalline 20   samarium doped ceria powder (ce0.8sm0.2o1.9) was synthesized by coprecipitation technique with ammonia, ammonium carbonate, tetramethylammonium hydroxide and urea as precipitants. The powders synthesized after calcination at 600 ° C have nano-sized fluorite structure, although they have very different morphology and agglomeration degree. There are significant differences in sintering behavior, especially due to the presence of hard aggregates. Therefore, precipitant plays an important role in the coprecipitation process. The coprecipitation process affects the morphology of powder and then the sintering behavior. The results showed that ammonium carbonate and urea were the best phosphorus sourcesecipitating agents to obtain final dense products after sintering.
