Response law and damage evolution of limestone resistivity and acoustic emission in Brazilian splitting test

Abstract: Brazilian splitting tests were carried out on two groups of limestone samples perpendicular and parallel to the plane, and the response laws of resistivity and acoustic emission (AE) under two loading modes were obtained. The test results show that the Brazilian splitting test with the load direction perpendicular to and parallel to the bedding shows significantly different results and anisotropic characteristics. Based on the response law of resistivity and acoustic emission, the damage variables based on resistivity and acoustic emission characteristics are modified, and the evolution law of damage variables in Brazilian splitting test under different loading directions is obtained. The results show that the damage evolution law changes with the change of load diection. Specifically, in the time-varying curve of the damage variable with the loading direction vertical to the bedding, the damage variable based on electrical resistivity properties showed an obvious damage weakening stage while that based on AE properties showed an abrupt increase under low load.
