Experimental study on internal behavior of collapsed rock under uniaxial compression

Abstract: As the main part of longwall goaf, the behavior and influence of goaf under pressure have a vital impact on rock stratum control, subsidence, associated resource mining and so on. However, due to the looseness of collapsed rock and the limitations of observation technology, the current research is based on a complete sample. In this paper, a set of experimental system is established by using digital image processing technology to study the internal behavior of collapsed rock samples under uniaxial compression, including motion and failure behavior. The results show that the compression process of collapsed rock can be divided into two stages according to the relative density. The variation of boundary effect, cavity and contact pressure leads to different motion laws in different formationssition in sample’s interior. A stratification phenomenon of breakage was discovered, which presents breakage concentration in the middle of the sample. The nonlinear movement and shear dislocation induced by shifts among caved rocks are the reason of the breakage stratification phenomenon. This phenomenon would have an effect on the permeability and seepage research of similar medium.
