Migration of chloride ions in OPC concrete under freeze-thaw failure

Abstract: In order to predict the durability of concrete structure under the coupling degradation composed of frost and chloride ion erosion, the microstructure analysis of concrete pore structure should be carried out at the same time. In this study, the correlation between pore structure and chloride ion migration of OPC concrete is evaluated. When the cement content in concrete mixture is 300, 350 and 400   kg m3 when the free water cement ratio is 0.45. The effect of frost damage on chloride ion transport rate was evaluated by testing concrete samples under rapid freeze-thaw cycle environment. The results show that freezing injury accelerates the migration of chloride ions, and the effect of freezing injury is greater at lower cement content. Microscopic examinationore structure showed that the freezing environment increased the volume of the large capillary pore in the concrete matrix.
