UV stimulated emission of sol-gel spin coating ZnO thin films

Abstract: ZnO thin films were deposited on n+As doped Si substrates by sol-gel spin coating. Low cost UV stimulated emission was produced by photoexcitation. In order to obtain the film that can produce stimulated emission under light excitation, the number of deposition layers and heat treatment methods were studied. The optimum conditions for the preparation of thin films were proposed. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy have been used for structural and morphological studies. The dependence of input-output intensity, spectral width, peak emission wavelength and the relationship between quantum efficiency and pump intensity are given. It is reported that the quantum efficiency is about 24.2 , and a power exponent greater than 8 is obtained under the input-output intensity dependencence, and a threshold of about 23 Mw cm2 has been evaluated for the samples. The mechanism by which stimulated emission occurs has been discussed. The results show that sol-gel spin coating is a promising method for generating ultraviolet stimulated emission from ZnO thin films.
