Dynamic damping DRM algorithm for static finite element solution of strain softening structure

Abstract: In order to solve the divergence and instability of nonlinear finite element model of strain softening structure due to ill posedness in implicit static analysis, dynamic relaxation method (DRM) is used together with dynamic damping to solve the static increment in incremental solution program, so as to make the problem well posedness. In addition, in DRM, it is not necessary to assemble and inverse the stiffness matrix like implicit static analysis, so as to avoid the related computational cost. The ascending branch of static equilibrium path is solved by load increment method, while the peak point and descending branch are solved by displacement increment method. Two numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of DRM in static equilibrium finite element analysisibrium path of strain-softening structures.
