Abstract: Snow melting pavement technology is an advanced maintenance method. By using embedded heating system to increase the temperature, snow or ice can be prevented from forming on the pavement. The main scope of this study is to evaluate the effect of conductive additives on heating efficiency. Considering the resistivity and thermal conductivity, the effects of conductive additives, graphite and carbon fiber on the snow melting capacity of asphalt mixture are studied. In addition, the distribution of conductive additives in asphalt concrete was studied by microscopic imaging. The actual heating simulation test of asphalt concrete mixture is carried out. Thermal tests show that graphite and carbon fiber improve the snow melting effect ability of asphalt mixes and their combination is more effective than when used alone. As observed in the microstructural image, carbon fibers show a long-range connecting effect among graphite conductive clusters and gather in bundles when added excessively. According to the actual test, adding the conductive additives helps improve snow-melting efficiency by shortening processing time and raising the surface temperature.
