Tensile properties and cracking mode of polyethylene fiber reinforced ultra high performance mortar

Abstract: In this paper, the compressive strength, tensile properties (including tensile strength, tensile strain capacity and toughness) and cracking mode of polyethylene (PE) reinforced ultra-high performance mortar (UHPM) are experimentally studied. According to the type and content of fibers used, the different tensile properties of UHPM are discussed. 1.5 micro steel fiber reinforced UHPM three PE fiber reinforced ultra-high performance powder metallurgy materials with different fiber contents were designed and prepared. A series of experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of PE fiber on the properties of UHPM. The results show that compared with ordinary polyethylene fiber, polyethylene fiber reinforced UHP polyethylene has lower strength level, higher tensile strain capacity, toughness and larger crack widthmicrosteel fiber-reinforced UHPM. It was also demonstrated that tensile strain capacity and toughness of 4.05 and 0.454 MPa m m, respectively, can be attained when using the proposed polyethylene-fiber-reinforced UHPM.
