Abstract: The DPR foundation is characterized by no structural connection with the raft. The raft pile gap is filled with granular cushion to form a more uniform pressure distribution on the raft and reduce differential settlement. In order to study the load transfer mechanism of DPR, a series of tests were carried out. The effects of cushion thickness, stiffness and pile diameter are proposed and discussed. According to the sliding surface of cushion obtained by digital image correlation technology, a simple failure mode of cushion is proposed. This technology tracks the pixels in the image and generates the displacement field. A new theoretical analysis of rigid pile composite foundation is proposed. Through comparative studys, it is found that the present method is validated as reasonable by laboratory tests and is in agreement with several current design methods.
